Partner and noted family law solicitor Nicola Watts has been a leading figure in her area for almost twenty years.
In this time she has worked in all key areas of family law and is today an integral part in the Septimus Jones & Lee Family Law Department.
Fundamental to Family Law is the issue of asset protection.
Nicola has a significant amount of experience at both ends of the relationship spectrum. She works to protect and manage your assets at the front end and when required is equally adept at distributing the pooled assets of a couple, should the relationship fail to continue.
At the start of the relationship it is vital to establish a fair and equitable agreement on how assets will be distributed if that relationship ends.
Whereas at the end of a realionship it is also important to be able to distribute assets by adopting a diplomatic and practical approach, whilst being prepared to take a more aggressive posture when required.
With an ongoing and deeply felt passion for the homeless and abused children, Nicola continues to demonstrate her commitment to these groups, not only through her professional work as an Independent Children's Lawyer, but also through her continued association with highly respected organisations such as the Lighthouse Foundation.
Originally from Tasmania, Nicola has established herself as a consummate professional who above all else, strives continuously to facilitate humane outcomes for her clients and their families. Outcomes that maintain and restore dignity in often troubling and difficult times.
Nicola is also a member of both the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia and Family Law Section of Law Institute of Victoria and she also serves as the Chairman of the East Malvern Community Committee of the Lighthouse Foundation.
In September 2011 Nicola received another well deserved honour by being awarded the prestigious Citizen of the Year for Services to Youth Award from the Stonnington Council for her ten years of service to the Lighthouse Foundation that offers homeless children a home and unconditional support and guidance.
Most recently Nicola has continued to update and further augment her already impressive list of qualifications, having undertaken extensive mediation training under the National Mediator Accreditation System (NMAS) through the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV), and is now a nationally accredited mediator.
As well Nicola has now completed her Collaborative Law training conducted through The Law Institute of Victoria and Monash University. This additional skill set will now allow Nicola to further tailor the type of family law solution to the specific needs of her clients ensuring a practical, equitable and humane outcome for all parties involved.
This recent fusion of existing skill sets with extensive training in both forms of alternative dispute resolution now positions Nicola a leading figure in Victorian Family Law.
Nicola is one of only a small number practising Australian solicitors who is qualified to participate in all forms of family law resolution.
